Horticulture

"Horticulture is a profession which offers a diversity of jobs to suit a wide range of talents. The profession also needs researchers, technologists, marketing experts and managers to shape the industry for the future."

SRUC (The Scottish Rural College)

As part of Developing the Young Workforce pupils in S1 & S2 are introduced to practical horticultural skills which helps link their learning across several curricular areas. Working in the allotment is great for personal well-being and pupils are proud to be improving the school environment for fellow pupils, staff and visitors.

Recent projects have included:

  • S1 farm visit
  • Heritage potatoes
  • Wheat
  • Parsley
  • Onions & garlic
  • Cooking with our harvest
  • Radish challenge
