Summer Term
S1 into S2
French
As pupils move into S2, we start to think about holidays! Summer term in S2 is all about holidays, looking at different countries around the world where French is spoken, places we might go on holiday, and how to plan a holiday abroad. We finish with a film study unit, watching the French film Les Choristes, breaking it into chunks, learning relevant phrases and talking about the history of French cinema. We may even enjoy a bit of singing in French, too!
Spanish
S2 Spanish starts with a block all about school. We talk about school subjects, look at school and school timetables in different Spanish speaking countries – did you know that many Spanish speaking countries in South America start school at 7am, for example? We also learn about school uniform – including why school pupils in Chile are nicknamed ‘penguins’!
S2 into S3
French
S3 French starts by following the adventures of hapless detective Mike Martin on a series of audio adventures around the French-speaking world. We learn about exotic French-speaking destinations as we try to work out the mystery behind the missing jewels, while enjoying some excellent voice acting from an all star multilingual cast.
Spanish
S3 Spanish talks about what we do in our free time – sports, hobbies, music, TV and media. This includes talking about the most popular sport in Spain, investigating Basque Pelota, and talking about our use of screentime!
MLLW
Modern Languages for Life and Work is an exciting and vibrant course that combines foreign language skills for living or working abroad, or with tourists in Scotland, and employability skills. We start by thinking about what kind of learner we are, using teamwork skills to build marble rollercoasters then analyse our contributions, and think about the kind of language we would need to get by in another country.
S3 into S4
French and Spanish
As it’s summer, we’re thinking holidays! What is your ideal holiday destination, who would you choose to go with, what would you do when you get there…long, sunny days under the Iberian sun await, as well as starting to think and eat like a Mediterranean. We might even make crepes or churros as well…
