English and Literacy

S1 moving into S2 – We have been completing an essay on Pocket Money and focusing on how to structure an argument, both verbally and in writing. We will be finishing off our Discursive / Persuasive Writing Unit next term and moving on to think about how we apply knowledge of persuasive skills to RUAE (Reading for Understanding, Analysis and Evaluation) answers. We will also be starting a short story unit and developing critical reading skills.

S2 moving into S3 – This term we have been focusing on language features and how the words we choose can create an image in the reader’s mind. Next term we will be moving on from our focus on word choice and imagery and applying our knowledge to a piece of writing. We will also be completing a Reading paper this term to assess progress in RUAE skills.

 S3 moving into S4 – Since the completion of YPI, we have been working on Textual Analysis and essay writing skills using a class text. Next term we will continue to develop these skills and will also be applying them to a Reading Assessment. Pupils will also be asked to complete a first draft piece of writing in class with a focus on technical accuracy.
