Term 3 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Carers

Welcome to Primary 3, Term 3.  This term has already got off to a different start that usual. As we all know we are doing home learning until the end of January with the hope to be back in school after that, depending on the current situation and announcements by the Scottish Government.

In Primary 3 we are going to try to stick to our original termly plan as much as possible. I am planning on holding small group teams meetings a few times a week to do direct teaching with the class and enable me to support children which their individual learning.  We will also continue to do activities and tasks assigned through Seesaw.

This term our topic is going to be Superheroes, we are going to be focussing on what skills do heroes use, what makes someone a hero, people who help us with an additional link to science and forces.

In literacy we are going to be learning how to take notes and use these to inform future writing. We are also going to work hard on our handwriting to make sure that we are forming our letters correctly and learning how to do some joined up writing.

In Numeracy, we are going to be learning about multiplication and finding different ways to work out and remember our multiplication sums.

We are also going to be starting information handling, we will be learning what information is, how we can gather information and how to present and read information from a graph.

For when we are back in school - PE will be on a Monday morning and a Thursday afternoon, with some of these lessons being outdoors. Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing.

We also have Art on a Wednesday afternoon and Music on Thursday mornings.

If anyone has any questions or extra help with Home Learning please contact me on Seesaw.

Kind Regards, Mrs S Callaghan

This term we are going to be using ‘The Twits’ as a class novel to help us to learn the importance of pace, expression and speech for engagement. In Numeracy, we are going to be learning about estimating and using our previous knowledge of numbers to inform our guessing.

We are also going to be learning about position, positional language and direction. We will be using maps, compasses and beebots to help us to learn about position and direction. Homework will be given out on a Monday and due to be completed by Friday, this will be posted on Seesaw with activities for the children to complete, please note that we are still not using home school diaries and all communication will be carried out via Seesaw.

I will be giving home children’s reading books, please be mindful to wash your hands when handling the books at home. These books will be quarantined for 72 hours when the books come back to school.

PE will be on a Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon, for the foreseeable future these lessons will be outdoors regardless of the weather. Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing. In addition to this, we will continue to have our outdoor learning days on a Tuesday and Thursday as we are coming into winter could you please ensure that children are wrapped up warm. A spare change of clothes or extra clothing in their school bags would be helpful.

We no longer have a drinking fountain in the school which means that it is difficult for the children to have a drink if they do not have a water bottle. Water bottles can stay in the children’s school bags for them to access throughout the day when needed. If anyone has any questions please feel free to speak to me before or after school or contact me on Seesaw.

Kind Regards Mrs S Callaghan
